Best Budget Decks for Singapore Open?

Posted by MTGSingapore about 2 months ago

Hey everyone! With the Singapore Open coming up, I'm looking to brew a budget-friendly deck that can still hold its own. I’m not trying to break the bank lah, so trying to stick under $100 SGD. Anyone got suggestions or ideas? I heard mono-red aggro and budget control decks are doing well in the meta right now. Also, any thoughts on what to expect from the local scene? Let’s share our ideas and maybe even meet up at Games Haven or Grey Ogre Games to test our builds!

Yo, I feel you! Last year, I played a budget Rakdos Sacrifice deck and it surprised a lot of folks. Cards like Claim the Firstborn and Cauldron Familiar can be found for cheap, about $20 USD for the whole deck. Plus, it fits the meta really well with all those pesky creature decks around. Let’s meet at Flagship Games this weekend, we can brew together!

Wah, good to see this thread! I think budget Spirits deck can also do quite well. Spirits are fast and can dodge a lot of removal. You can build it for under $80 SGD if you pick up the right cards from Grey Ogre Games. Just keep an eye out for all the aggro decks, it’s hot in this weather, but even hotter in the meta right now, haha!

Eh, no need to forget about budget control, can consider Dimir Control too! With cheap counter spells and card draw, can stretch your budget to about $90 SGD. Check local distributors to grab some deals. I’m part of the local playgroup at my kopitiam, we meet every Friday to test what we’ve brewed. Lots of laughs and good food while we play, come join us!

Hey lah! Great to see so many suggestions flowing. If you want to go really budget, how about a mono-green stompy deck? You can get some solid creatures like Llanowar Elves and Pelt Collector without breaking the bank. With some pump spells, it can catch opponents off-guard. Plus, it's fun to play and can definitely keep up with aggro decks! I usually grab my cards from Card Collector or the Toy Game Store; they often have good deals for budget players. Also, don't forget to check out the meta; you might run into a lot of aggro and midrange decks, so having some protection spells could help. If anyone wants to try out decks together, we can meet at Funan or even at a local kopitiam for some good food and testing. Happy brewing, everyone!

Hey there! Love the spirit of brewing on a budget! I’d suggest looking into a Boros Aggro deck. You can get some cheap but effective cards like Swiftblade Vindicator and Lightning Helix. It’s aggressive, can finish games quickly, and you can easily keep it under $100 SGD if you shop around at places like Hobby Point or Battle Bunker. Plus, it fits well into the local meta with all those midrange decks floating about! Also, consider joining the local events at Battle Bunker; they often have budget-friendly tournaments and it's a great way to meet fellow players. Don't forget to bring a cold drink to beat the heat while playing! Happy brewing and see you at the next meetup!
