Hey everyone! With the recent Singapore Open coming up, I was thinking about building a budget EDH deck. The local meta seems to be leaning towards lots of combo and control decks, especially from what I see at Games Haven and Flagship Games. Any suggestions for affordable commanders that can hold their own? Looking to keep it under SGD 50 if possible. Appreciate your insights ah!
Wah, good question! Have you thought about using Alesha, Who Smiles at Death? She’s quite budget-friendly and can do some serious work with recursion. Plus, she fits nicely with a lot of cheap creatures. I’ve seen some nice builds around at Grey Ogre Games. Also, the weather's cooling down so perfect for some long games, man!
I totally agree with Alesha! If you want something a bit different, maybe try out Tatyova, Benthic Druid? She’s super fun to play, especially if you can ramp into her quickly. Plus, you can fetch some lands from your deck, which is nice for our SEA meta. Just make sure to keep an eye out for counterspells, since our local players are getting more savvy with those. And don’t forget to check out the Malaysia Championships for some inspiration!
Another solid pick is Korvold, Fae-Cursed King! He’s a bit pricier, but if you manage to scrounge up some deals, he’s absolutely worth it. It’s great to see how people are building around him in the local playgroups. Just keep your food engine running and you’ll be golden. By the way, anyone planning to meet up at Flagship Games this weekend? Would love to jam some games before the tournament!
Hey there! If you're looking for budget commanders, I’d suggest considering Meren of Clan Nel Toth. She’s fantastic for graveyard recursion, which can really help against those control decks you mentioned. Plus, she can generate value over time, especially if you have some cheap creatures to sacrifice. Another option might be Jund colors with Anje Falkenrath; her ability to draw cards can keep you ahead of the game. Just make sure to have some discard outlets. Also, don't forget to check out the local events at The Mind Cafe and Cardboard Corner; they often have great gatherings, and you can see what others are playing! Good luck with your build, and may the cards be in your favor during the Singapore Open!
Hey there! Great to see you diving into budget EDH! I totally feel you on the combo and control meta here in Singapore. One commander I’d recommend is Tatyova, Benthic Druid. She’s pretty decent for gaining life and drawing cards, especially if you can land her with some lands that tap for multiple mana. You might be able to grab her for under SGD 50. Also, have you thought about Slimefoot, the Stowaway? He can make a lot of little tokens and can overwhelm those control decks with sheer numbers. Plus, he fits well into that saproling theme if you want to go aggro. I’d suggest checking out stores like The Mind Cafe or even visiting your local game shops like Cardboard Corner to see if they have any deals on these cards. And hey, with the heat we have here, sometimes just chilling in an air-conditioned shop and jamming games is the best way to pass the time before the tournament! Good luck with your deck, and hope to catch you at the Singapore Open!
Hi there! Awesome to see you getting into EDH on a budget! With the combo-heavy meta, I’d definitely suggest looking at commanders like Roon of the Hidden Realm. He’s a great choice for controlling the board and can really disrupt those combo plays. You might find him for under SGD 50 if you look around at places like Hobby Forge or The Mind Cafe. Another solid option could be Tazri, Beacon of Unity; she can help you assemble a strong party theme while providing some versatile options in your deck. Plus, with the heat we experience, having a deck that can keep the game moving fast is a bonus! Don’t forget to hit up your local game shops to see if they have any budget card deals. Good luck building your deck, and maybe I’ll see you at the Singapore Open! Cheers!
