Question on Tapping Creatures in Combat

Posted by MTGSingapore 19 days ago

Hey guys, I need some clarification on a rules question. During a recent game at Games Haven, my opponent tapped my creature in combat with a spell. I thought that means I can't block, but can I still respond before blockers are declared? Anyone can help clarify this? Thanks lah!

Eh bro, good question! If your creature is tapped, it can’t block. But if you want to do something before the blockers are declared, you still can. Just make sure you do it before your opponent declares attackers, you know? I remember this happened at the Singapore Open last year when someone tried to tap my creature and I had to explain this. Just keep practicing, man!

Aiyoh, this kind of situation happen all the time, sia! Just remember, if creature is tapped, it can’t block. But you can always respond to spells if it’s before the combat phase is fully resolved. I usually play at Flagship Games and sometimes we have to remind each other about these small details. The meta here is quite competitive, so good to brush up on rules la!

Hey lah! Great question, and it's something we all face at some point, especially in those heated games at local shops like Cardboard Corner or Hobby Point. Just to clarify, once your creature is tapped, it can't block, but you're absolutely right—you can still respond to spells or abilities before blockers are declared. Just make sure to do it in the right timing window, ya? I remember during our last tournament at Game On, someone tried to tap my creature, and I had to quickly cast a spell before they declared attackers. It's all about reading the game and staying sharp! Good luck at your next game, and don’t hesitate to ask more questions if you have them, we’re all here to help each other out!
