Singapore Open Recap - What a Weekend!

Posted by SGCombo 5 months ago

Hey fellow planeswalkers! Just wanted to share my experience at the Singapore Open last weekend. The turnout was mad, like over 200 players! I was playing my Dimir Control deck, and I gotta say, the meta is so spicy now with all the Phyrexian cards flying around. Managed to make it to Day 2, but got knocked out in the top 32, which is still not too bad lah. Met some friends from Grey Ogre Games and we had a blast discussing our strategies over some kopi after the event. Also, the weather was super hot, typical Singapore ah! Anyway, what about you guys? Anyone else join the tournament? How did your decks perform?

Wah, congrats on making it to Day 2! I was there too, playing my Mono-Red Aggro. The matches were intense, especially against those control decks. I found Flagship Games’ players had some really solid combos! Prices for cards are getting a bit crazy though, some rares going for like SGD 30+! Next time, we should form a group to grind more together lah. It's easier to test against different decks, especially with this meta being so diverse.

I didn't make it to the Singapore Open, but I heard from my friends who went that the atmosphere was electric! I usually play at Games Haven in the evenings, and our local scene is pretty strong. We just had our own mini-tournament last week, and it's a good way to practice for bigger events. Also, I noticed the meta shifting a lot lately, with more players bringing out those new creature types from the latest set. Weather was quite forgiving, so it was a nice day for games! Hope to catch you all at the next event, maybe Malaysia Championships?

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience! So glad to hear you made it to Day 2 with your Dimir Control deck! The meta is really wild these days with all the Phyrexian stuff, right? I was at the same event, and my Azorius Midrange did pretty well too, but I got knocked out just before the Top 16. I think the heat made us all a bit more frantic during matches, haha! After the games, we chilled at a nearby kopitiam with some players from the local Riptide Gaming crew, discussing our favorite plays. It’s always a blast to share strategies and just have a good time together. The card prices are getting a bit over the top lately, especially for those Phyrexian rares and mythics, but I guess that’s the way it goes with popular sets. Looking forward to more events like this and maybe even a casual gathering at our local shop! Anyone up for a deck-testing session at GameOn next week?

Hey there! Thanks for sharing your awesome recap of the Singapore Open! It's great to hear you made it to Day 2 with your Dimir Control deck. The Phyrexian cards are definitely shaking things up; I’ve noticed more of them in our local meta too. I played in a smaller tournament at The Magic Academy last week, and the heat was brutal, but it was fun battling it out with friends. I ended up playing a Jund Sacrifice deck that did surprisingly well against aggro. Prices for those Phyrexian mythics are getting crazy, right? I remember trying to trade for a few at the last event, but everyone was holding onto them tight! I’m keen on catching up with you and others for some casual games at Game Haven soon. Let's keep the discussions going and maybe organize a bigger gathering! Cheers!
