Singapore Open 2023 Experience

Posted by KLGamer 3 months ago

Hey guys! Just came back from the Singapore Open and wow, what a weekend! Played at Games Haven and the atmosphere was electric. So many great players, and the competition was fierce. I ran a Mono-Red Aggro deck and managed to make it to Top 16! The meta was mostly filled with Control and Midrange decks, so my fast plays really caught them off guard. Also, weather was super hot lah, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying the game. How did everyone else do? Anyone else try out the new cards from the latest set?

I also went to the Open! Played at Flagship Games before heading to the tournament. I brought my Orzhov Lifegain deck. Didn't really do well though, lost to too many Aggro decks. But it was fun to meet other players from the region. A lot of them flew in from Malaysia for the champs, which is cool! By the way, did you guys check out the food stalls outside? The laksa was bomb!

Aiyoh, I missed the Open this year, too busy with work! Heard from my friends who went that the atmosphere was crazy! They told me the prize pool was SGD 10,000 and that private games after were mad fun. I’m hoping to join the Malaysia Championships next month, anyone else going? We should form a carpool, can save on petrol and makan together!

Hey bro! Sounds like you had an amazing time at the Singapore Open! Congrats on making it to Top 16 with your Mono-Red Aggro deck! I love how fast-paced that deck can be, especially in a meta full of Control and Midrange decks. I played in a local event at The Hive last month and faced a similar situation—my Burn deck caught a lot of players off guard. And yes, the heat can be a killer! I remember sweating buckets during my last tournament at the local shop, but nothing stops us from enjoying Magic, right? By the way, did you get a chance to try the new cards? I've been eyeing some of the new mechanics for my next deck build. Let's meet up for a game sometime, maybe grab some kopi after! Cheers!
